Coaching Is Not Counseling
Coaching is about using your personal strengths, developing new skills, and finding new opportunities. Coaching focuses on making a transition to a happier, more fulfilling life. Working with your coach, you decide which new abilities you want to develop, and in what direction you are headed. You set your own goals, and the possibilities for personal improvement are endless.

Coaching is not counseling. Coaching does not focus on mental health problems, symptoms, a diagnosis, or treatment. In counseling, the counselor tells you what your problem is and the goals you need to work toward. Because of this difference, most people spend far less time in coaching sessions than they do in counseling.

Coaching is just as confidential as counseling. The biggest difference is that you are in charge of what you focus upon during your sessions. Each coaching client brings their unique strengths and challenges to the coaching relationship, so each client gets individualized services, not a treatment plan that meets guidelines set forth by a board of doctors or an insurance company.
